A double-sink vanity commands presence. The right medicine cabinet should match its scale. Here are two approaches for filling 72 inches of wall space with purpose and precision.

Approach 1Single Large Cabinet Approach 2Two Smaller Cabinets

A 72-inch vanity is a statement.
Your cabinet should be too.

Double-sink vanities in the 71–73 inch range are the tipping point where two approaches become equally viable: one extra-wide cabinet spanning 60–66 inches, or a pair of 28–32-inch cabinets flanking the mirror space. Each creates a different rhythm on the wall. Neither is wrong.

The deciding factors come down to mirror preference, storage volume, and whether you want a single uninterrupted reflective surface or a symmetrical split layout. This guide lays out the best options for both paths.

Approach A
Single Wide Cabinet

A single 60–66-inch cabinet creates one expansive mirror across the vanity. Clean, monolithic, dramatic. Works best when the vanity is centered on the wall and you want uninterrupted reflection.

  • Single mirror surface — no gap, no split
  • Easier wiring for lights (one junction box)
  • Largest possible storage cavity
  • Requires 68”+ of clear wall width

Approach B
Two Cabinets

Two cabinets (28–32 inches each) frame a central mirror or artwork. Each person gets their own cabinet. Symmetrical, personal, and often easier to install without structural wall concerns.

  • Dedicated storage per sink — no sharing
  • Central space for a statement mirror or art
  • Easier shipping and handling
  • Flexible positioning around outlets and studs

Approach A: Single Cabinet

One cabinet. One mirror. Maximum span. These three options fill 60 to 64 inches of a 72-inch vanity wall, leaving a few inches on each side for breathing room.

Making the call

Measure twice

A 72-inch vanity typically occupies 70–72 inches of wall space. Your cabinet(s) must fit within that, accounting for trim, outlet placement, and stud locations. Leave at least 2–3 inches on each side.

Single vs. split

Approach A works best when the vanity is centered on a clear wall. Approach B offers flexibility: you can center each cabinet over each sink bowl and use the middle for a mirror, art, or open shelving.

Lighting integration

Pre-wired lighted cabinets (MC001, MC002, MC010, MC015) simplify the electrical work. For unlit cabinets, plan for sconces or an overhead fixture. Recessed models (MC011) need in-wall rough-in access.
